The Braver Angels Delaware Alliance is working in our local communities by holding workshops, debates and public presentations designed to bridge the polarizing political divide we experience in our country. These events allow conservatives and liberals across the political spectrum to get past destructive stereotypes so we can have civil conversations about real issues that lead to productive problem-solving.
We state our views freely and fully, without fear.
We treat people who disagree with us with honesty, dignity and respect.
We welcome opportunities to engage those with whom we disagree.
We believe all of us have blind spots and none of us are not worth talking to.
We seek to disagree accurately, avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes.
We look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together.
We believe that, in disagreements, both sides share and learn.
In Braver Angels, neither side is teaching the other or giving feedback on how to think or say things differently.

Marty Hopkins is the Red Co-Chair of the Braver Angels Delaware Alliance.
He is a lifelong Delawarean and is an alumnus of the University of Delaware where he received a degree in Chemical Engineering. He has spent most of his professional career helping to safely destroy the U.S. cold war chemical weapons stockpile.
Marty also is a volunteer for the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, another non-profit, non-partisan
organization pursuing bi-partisan clean energy alternatives while embracing a core philosophy of respectful dialogue much like Braver Angels.
He and his wife, Mary Pat, live in Newark and are the parents of adult daughters, Katie Milam and Megan Hopkins.
Rich Harris is the Acting Blue Co-Chair of the Braver Angels Delaware Alliance and
serves as the Delaware State Coordinator. He received his BA from Duke University
and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is Emeritus Professor of Political
Science at Rutgers University. Rich and his wife Ellen Wolf became Delaware residents
in 2015 but have owned a home in Lewes for thirty years where they enjoy spending
time with their children and grandchildren.
Riche joined Braver Angels in 2018, serving on the Scholars Council and in the
Ambassador Program before volunteering as Delaware State Coordinator and
organizing the Delaware Alliance. In addition to his Braver Angels work, Rich is
engaged in local civic activities and remains active in academic work, serving as an Evaluator for Fulbright Fellowship.
