Become a Courageous Citizen Amid the Politics of Contempt – Interactive Book Discussion

When: Wednesday, October 14, 7:00 - 8:30 PM EDT

Offered as part of Peace Week Delaware 2026, this 90-minute live event invites participants to explore how each of us can help build a more peaceful and constructive civic culture—even when political differences run deep.

Doug and Beth will share key ideas from the book and offer practical strategies for changing the way we talk, listen, disagree, build relationships, and participate in civic life—helping us move beyond contempt and toward greater understanding and connection.

Through guided discussion and skill-building exercises, participants will practice approaches that strengthen curiosity, critical thinking, humility, and genuine understanding across differences.

Common Ground Workshop on Immigration

When: Saturday, September 26, 2026 @ 10:00am - 3:30pm EDT (Lunch provided.)

“Are you willing to listen to the other side, and are you willing to speak to the other side with respect?”

This workshop is part of the overall Braver Angels Citizens Commission on Immigration. Delaware residents are invited to have a thoughtful conversation about the issue, share their experiences and opinions, and flesh out any points of agreement. When possible, these workshops lead to joint “Red/Blue” actions such as op-eds or meetings with legislators.

Depolarizing Within: A Workshop on Developing Skills for Civil Engagement

When: Tuesday, May 5th and Thursday, May 7th, 2026

Our country is more divided than ever, with too many of us isolated from and antagonistic toward those who hold different views. This division damages our communities, disrupts our families, and stops us from working together for the common good.

Depolarizing Within can help you bridge this divide by looking at your own attitudes towards the political “other.” During this two-part workshop, you will…

Become more aware of your own “inner polarizer.”
Learn how to criticize viewpoints without stereotyping, dismissing, ridiculing, and holding contempt for those who disagree with you.
Develop ways to speak up in polarizing conversations with peers about people on the other political side.
Do a self-assessment exercise, learn to counteract your inner polarizer, and practice communication skills to avoid polarizing conversations.

Finding Common Ground on Polarizing Issues: Braver Angels Trustworthy Elections Project

When: Friday, April 24th, 2026

Are you worried that your vote doesn’t count because elections are rigged? Are you convinced the “other side” has co-opted the electoral system?

Citizens across the political spectrum distrust our electoral system for vastly different reasons, from voter fraud and suppression to security and the peaceful transfer of power.

Braver Angels, the nation’s largest volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide, has worked to rebuild this trust by seeking solutions supported by citizens of all political persuasions. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents came together to find common ground with a shared belief in free and fair elections, the bedrock of our democracy.
